Town of Islip Parking Permit: MacArthur, Bay Shore, and Applying

A Town of Islip parking permit is one of several separate authorizations the town issues: a resident sticker for the lots at Long Island MacArthur Airport, commuter permits for the Bay Shore Railroad Station and downtown Bay Shore, a Bay Shore Resident (BSR) permit for downtown residents, a Town Seasonal Resident (TSR) permit for certain waterfront streets in summer, and dock permits at Maple Avenue and Ocean Avenue. Each has its own form, eligibility rule, and fee, so the first step is matching your situation to the right permit.¹

MacArthur Airport Resident Permit

The airport sticker gives Town of Islip residents access to lots 6, 6A, and 6B at Long Island MacArthur Airport at reduced rates.² Only residents qualify, though businesses located in the town can buy a permit at a higher price. You choose a one- or two-year term, and residents aged 60 and older get a discount.

Under the rate schedule revised September 2025:

One-year resident permit: $40
Two-year resident permit: $60
Senior (60+) one-year: $30
Senior (60+) two-year: $50
Business one-year: $100
Business two-year: $150

Senior applicants have to include proof of age to get the discounted rate.³

To apply, you submit a copy of your New York State driver’s license and your current vehicle registration. Both must show the same name and a Town of Islip address. If the registration lists a P.O. box or an address outside the town, you also need either a current tax bill in your name or a current utility bill together with a lease in your name.⁴

The sticker is tied to the single vehicle on your application and cannot be moved to another car. You have to affix it permanently to the inside lower left corner of the rear window. Using it on a different vehicle, or parking without a visible sticker, can bring a citation.⁴

Applications go through the town’s patron portal, in person, or by mail to Long Island MacArthur Airport, Resident Parking Bureau, 100 Arrival Avenue, Suite 100, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779. The airport recommends submitting at least four weeks before any planned trip so the sticker arrives in time.⁴

Bay Shore Commuter and Downtown Parking

The Bay Shore Railroad Station charges for parking year-round. You can pay daily, buy a long-term spot, or apply for a commuter permit, and seasonal weekend passes are offered during certain months. A pay-by-cell option covers the daily and hourly lots for drivers without a permit. Downtown Bay Shore also has hourly, daily, and permit-based parking.¹

The commuter permit uses a dedicated application separate from the residential and seasonal permits. Fee amounts for the commuter permit aren’t listed on the main program page, so check the application form itself or contact the town for current pricing.

Bay Shore Resident and Seasonal Street Permits

The Bay Shore Resident (BSR) permit is for people living on Main Street in downtown Bay Shore. Holders park free in the Bay Shore back lots, which keeps commuter overflow from taking those spaces.¹

The Town Seasonal Resident (TSR) permit is a summer-only authorization for on-street parking near the waterfront. The covered streets are Auburn Avenue, Burnett Avenue, Ocean Avenue, South Clinton Avenue, South Bay Avenue, South Atlantic Avenue, Lawrence Avenue, and Bayview Avenue. Visitor traffic climbs during beach season, and the TSR permit keeps blocks accessible to the people who live on them.¹

Both permits have their own application forms, available through the patron portal or as paper downloads.

What You Need Before You Apply

Have these ready for any of the residential or airport permits:

A valid New York State driver’s license showing a Town of Islip address
A current vehicle registration in the same name and address
Additional proof of residency if the registration doesn’t show an Islip address: a current tax bill, or a current utility bill together with a lease, each in your name
Vehicle details: make, model, year, and license plate number

How to Submit Your Application

The town runs an online patron portal at tocite.net/islipny/portal with separate listings for airport, commuter, and residential permits. Each permit type has its own registration page.¹ If you’d rather work on paper, the Municipal Parking Program page at islipny.gov links to downloadable forms for the Bay Shore commuter permit, Maple Avenue Dock permit, resident parking permit, and seasonal resident permit. Completed paper applications go to the mailing address printed on the specific form.

If You Get a Parking Ticket

Islip’s Parking Violations Bureau uses an escalating penalty structure. Ignore a ticket for 30 days and the original fine doubles. At 60 days, the penalty becomes the original fine plus double the late penalty. After 90 days, another $20 is added.⁵ Base fines by violation type aren’t posted on the code page, but the compounding is severe enough that responding quickly is almost always the cheapest choice.

A Note on the Suffolk County Green Key

The Green Key Card is a Suffolk County program, not a Town of Islip permit, and it doesn’t cover town parking lots or streets. It gives county residents reduced fees at Suffolk County parks, beaches, golf courses, campgrounds, and marinas. A standard resident card is $30 and lasts three years, with a $15 rate for seniors 60 and older, veterans, active military and their families, persons with disabilities, juniors under 18, and volunteer first responders; disabled veterans with VA service-connected proof pay nothing. First-time cards have to be bought in person at a participating county park; renewals can be done online.⁶
