Way2Go Card NY: Activation, Cash Access, and Bank Transfers

The Way2Go Card in NY is a prepaid Mastercard that the state uses to pay unemployment insurance and child support benefits to people who haven’t signed up for direct deposit. It’s issued by Comerica Bank and managed by Conduent under the Go Program brand, and once you activate it, it works anywhere Mastercard is accepted.1New York State Department of Labor. Have your 16-digit card number, Social Security number, and date of birth ready. The system matches these against state agency records to confirm the card belongs to you. You’ll also set a four-digit PIN for ATM withdrawals and PIN-based purchases, so pick something that isn’t your birth year or a simple sequence. Any benefits already deposited become available as soon as activation finishes.

Getting Cash Without Paying Fees

In-network ATM withdrawals through Allpoint and MoneyPass are free with no cap on how often you use them.1New York State Department of Labor. Moving Money to a Bank Account

You have two choices if you’d rather have your benefits in a checking account.

For a one-time move, log in to GoProgram.com and transfer funds from the card to a personal U.S. bank account you own. There’s no fee.2New York State Department of Labor. New York State Department of Labor – Way2Go Card

For a permanent switch, sign in to your NY.gov account, then go to Unemployment Services, Update Your Personal Information, and Update/Register for Direct Deposit. You’ll need your bank routing number and checking account number taken from a physical check rather than a deposit slip. The switch takes about five business days to process, and payments keep going to the Way2Go Card during that window. You can’t set up or change direct deposit over the phone. Once it’s active, deposits usually arrive within three business days after you certify for weekly benefits.3New York State Department of Labor. Direct Deposit Frequently Asked Questions

A Card You Never Applied For

If a Way2Go Card arrives and you never filed for unemployment, someone likely used your personal information to file a fraudulent claim. Do not activate it.

Report the fraud through the Department of Labor’s online tool at apps.labor.ny.gov/IndividualFraudReporting.4New York State Department of Labor. Report Fraud After filing, change passwords and PINs on your online accounts (banking especially), place a free fraud alert with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, pull your credit reports at annualcreditreport.com, file a police report with your local department, and report the misused Social Security number to the Social Security Administration.

You may continue to get mail, emails, or even another card after filing. DOL stops the fraudulent claim right away, but printed materials already in the pipeline can keep showing up for weeks or months, and you don’t need to file a new report for each piece.4New York State Department of Labor.
