A West Allis parking ticket can be paid online at westalliswi.gov/paycitation, in person at the Police Department Records Unit, or through the lobby drop box after hours.1City of West Allis. Paying Citations and Fines If you believe the citation was issued in error, you can request a Municipal Court date instead. Whichever route you take, act before the due date printed on the ticket. West Allis does not use a gradual late-fee ladder; a missed deadline moves straight to debt collection, and a single unpaid parking ticket can suspend your driver’s license for a full year.2City of West Allis. Court Payment Options
Most West Allis tickets come from the same rule: no street parking anywhere in the city between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. without a valid permit, every day of the year.3City of West Allis. Parking Rules and Parking Permits Snow emergencies and posted zones generate the rest.
How to Pay
Three options, listed from fastest to slowest:
- Online at westalliswi.gov/paycitation, by credit card or e-check. A service fee applies to card payments; paying by e-check may avoid it.1City of West Allis. Paying Citations and Fines2City of West Allis. Court Payment Options
- In person at the Records Unit, West Allis Police Department, 11301 W. Lincoln Ave., Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or debit are accepted.2City of West Allis. Court Payment Options
- In the drop box in the Police Department lobby during non-business hours.1City of West Allis. Paying Citations and Fines
Watch the due date on the citation. Missing it does not add a small late fee; it refers your case out for collection and triggers the license and registration consequences described below.
Can’t Find Your Ticket?
The citation number is the key to every step, and it’s printed at the top of the paper ticket along with the violation date, location, and fine. If the paper is gone, use the online citation search at westalliswi.gov/paycitation to look it up by vehicle information. The lookup shows the amount owed, so you can confirm what you’re dealing with before you pay or contest.1City of West Allis. Paying Citations and Fines
How to Contest the Ticket
The registered owner of the vehicle can request a court date in one of two ways: appear in person with a photo ID at the Records Unit, or email a copy of your ID along with the reason you want to contest to records@westalliswi.gov.4City of West Allis. Parking Citations and Tickets There is no separate administrative review stage. Your case goes straight to Municipal Court.
Hearings are held on Wednesday mornings. The court will contact you by phone with the date, and alternative times are not offered, so plan around a Wednesday.4City of West Allis. Parking Citations and Tickets
Bring whatever shows you were parked legally. Timestamped photos of the signs, the curb, your permit confirmation, a meter receipt, or dashcam and GPS data all help. Put digital files on a USB drive labeled with your name and citation number, and call the court clerk ahead of time to confirm the format they’ll accept.
What Happens If You Don’t Pay
The consequences escalate quickly, and they’re disproportionate to the fine itself.
Your Driver’s License Can Be Suspended for a Year
If you miss the due date, the city refers the debt to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for collection and your driver’s license is suspended for one year.2City of West Allis. Court Payment Options A single parking ticket can take your driving privileges for twelve months.
Your Vehicle Registration Can Be Held
If the fine or any related towing and storage fees remain unpaid for 28 days and you have not appeared in court, the city can ask the Wisconsin DMV to suspend the registration of the vehicle involved. The DMV can also refuse to register any other vehicle in the same owner’s name.5Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Your State Tax Refund Can Be Intercepted
Wisconsin law lets municipalities certify unpaid debts of $20 or more to the Department of Revenue, which then intercepts your state tax refund to cover the amount.7Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Tax Refund Interception Program The city must notify you in writing when the debt is certified, and you have 20 days from that notice to contest the citation before the intercept takes effect.8Wisconsin State Legislature. Wisconsin Statutes Taxation 71.935 If you do nothing, the Department of Revenue can keep attempting to intercept refunds for up to eight years or until the debt is paid.
Bankruptcy Won’t Clear It
Parking fines are generally classified as non-dischargeable because they are owed to a government entity and are punitive rather than compensatory. Filing Chapter 7 will not wipe out an outstanding West Allis parking citation.
Why You Got the Ticket (and How to Avoid the Next One)
If the citation was for parking on a city street between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., the fix is a permit. Permits are available through the online form on the city website, in person at the Police Department (11301 W. Lincoln Ave., 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays), or at the City Hall Customer Service Center (7525 W. Greenfield Ave., 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays). Handicap placard holders have to visit the Police Department in person with a state ID, the placard, and vehicle information to set up a permit.3City of West Allis. Parking Rules and Parking Permits
Snow emergencies add their own rules. Once declared, residential streets switch to alternate-side parking from midnight to 3:00 p.m. based on the calendar date (even dates, even-numbered side), and main thoroughfares close to street parking entirely for the duration — vehicles left on them can be towed without notice.9City of West Allis. Snow Emergency Parking Rules Overnight permit requirements still apply during a snow emergency.
Watch Out for QR Code Scams
Fake QR code stickers have appeared on parking meters and kiosks in cities around the country, routing drivers to fraudulent payment sites that steal card information. West Allis directs all online citation payments through westalliswi.gov/paycitation; any other URL is not legitimate.1City of West Allis. Paying Citations and Fines If anything about a code or link looks off, pay in person at the Records Unit or call the city to verify.
