To get a replacement ID in Missouri, visit a Department of Revenue license office in person with proof of your identity, Social Security number, and Missouri residency, and pay the $24 nondriver ID fee.1Missouri Department of Revenue. Missouri Driver License and Nondriver ID Resources You can’t replace a Missouri nondriver ID online or by mail. Gathering the right paperwork before you go is what keeps this from becoming a two-trip errand.
Documents To Bring
Missouri sorts the required paperwork into categories, and you need at least one item from each. Everything must be an original or a certified copy.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Documents for Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Instruction Permit
Proof of Identity and Lawful Status
One document showing who you are and that you’re legally in the United States. The usual options are a certified U.S. birth certificate, an unexpired U.S. passport, or a Certificate of Naturalization. Non-citizens can use a Permanent Resident Card or Employment Authorization Document.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Documents for Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Instruction Permit
If you’re getting a standard (non-REAL ID) card, Missouri accepts a couple of alternatives the REAL ID track doesn’t. An expired Missouri or out-of-state license works if it expired within the last six months. A photocopy of a certified birth certificate also works when paired with a U.S. military ID or military discharge papers.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Social Security Number
Bring your Social Security card. If you already have a Missouri license or permit and your number is on file with the Department of Revenue, you can give it verbally instead of showing the card.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Documents for Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Instruction Permit
Proof of Missouri Residency
Each residency document must show your name and current address. A standard card needs one; a REAL ID-compliant card needs two, from two different sources.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Documents for Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Instruction Permit Utility bills, bank statements, and voter registration cards are common choices. The Department of Revenue publishes the full list as a PDF on its website, and checking it before your visit is worth two minutes.
Name Change Documents
If your current legal name doesn’t match the name on your identity document, bring proof of each change linking the two. A marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order works.2Missouri Department of Revenue. Documents for Driver License, Nondriver ID, and Instruction Permit
REAL ID or Standard
Before you leave the house, decide whether you want the REAL ID-compliant version of the card or a standard one. Since May 2025, TSA and other federal agencies require a REAL ID-compliant card, a passport, or another federally accepted ID to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings.3Transportation Security Administration. REAL ID A standard Missouri nondriver ID still works for age verification and state-level identification, but not at an airport checkpoint on its own. A gold star in the upper corner marks a card as REAL ID-compliant.
The practical difference is paperwork. REAL ID needs two residency documents from two different sources; standard needs one. REAL ID also has stricter rules about identity documents, and upgrading from a standard card to REAL ID means bringing the full REAL ID document set.2Missouri Department of Revenue. If Your Supporting Documents Are Also Missing

Flying Before Your Replacement Arrives
If your ID vanished right before a flight and you have no passport or other federally accepted document, the TSA runs a paid identity verification service called TSA ConfirmID. The fee is $45, paid through Pay.gov before your trip. You then show a printed or electronic receipt at the checkpoint, and a TSA officer will attempt to verify your identity. The agency does not guarantee verification will succeed.6Transportation Security Administration. TSA ConfirmID
