What Hours Can You Buy Alcohol in Oregon? Stores, Bars, and Delivery

In Oregon, you can buy beer, wine, and cider at grocery stores, convenience stores, and bottle shops from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. every day. Bars and restaurants serve all types of alcohol from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Distilled spirits are sold only through state-contracted liquor stores, which operate between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The exact hours you can buy alcohol in Oregon depend on what you’re buying and where, because the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) sets different rules for each category.1Cornell Law School. Beer, Wine, and Cider at Stores

Any licensed retailer with an off-premises sales license can sell factory-sealed beer, wine, and cider from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily.1Cornell Law School. Oregon Admin Code 845-006-0425 – Hours of Sale That covers grocery stores, convenience stores, bottle shops, and similar retailers.2OregonLaws. ORS 471.186 – Off-Premises Sales License You will not find distilled spirits at any of these locations.

Those hours are the legal ceiling, not a requirement. A neighborhood market that closes at 11:00 p.m. is operating within the rules even though it could legally sell until 2:30 a.m. Store hours and alcohol-sale hours are not the same thing, and the shorter of the two is what applies to you.

Liquor Stores for Distilled Spirits

Oregon is a control state. Distilled spirits for off-premises consumption are sold only through a network of more than 280 retail agents who contract with the OLCC rather than through privately owned liquor stores.3Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. State rules fix the outer boundaries. A liquor store cannot open before 7:00 a.m. and cannot stay open past 10:00 p.m. On regular weekdays, excluding Sundays and holidays, every liquor store must be open at least eight hours and must include the noon to 6:00 p.m. block in those hours.4Cornell Law School. Oregon Admin Code 845-015-0140 – Hours and Days of Operation On Sundays and holidays, opening is optional. An agent who does open on a Sunday can pick any number of hours inside the 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. window.

In practice, many liquor stores settle into roughly 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Call ahead if you’re making a special trip.

Bars, Restaurants, and Taverns

On-premises licensees can serve any type of alcohol, including spirits, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily.1Cornell Law School. Oregon Admin Code 845-006-0425 – Hours of Sale The one-hour gap between the 6:00 a.m. retail start and the 7:00 a.m. bar start catches some people out. At 6:15 a.m., a hotel gift shop can sell you a bottle of wine, but the hotel bar cannot pour you a drink yet.

“Last call” is not a defined legal term in Oregon, but 2:30 a.m. is firm. All service, consumption, and removal of alcohol from the premises must stop at that time. Most bars announce last call 15 to 30 minutes earlier to clear the pipeline.

The Airport Exception

Licensed establishments inside airports designated as Category I Commercial Service Airports by the Oregon Department of Aviation can begin service at 4:00 a.m. instead of 7:00 a.m. Between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., they may only serve ticketed passengers who hold a valid same-day boarding pass.5Oregon Secretary of State. OAR 845-006-0425 – Hours of Sale After 7:00 a.m., the standard on-premises rules apply and anyone in the airport can order. The 2:30 a.m. closing time still applies.

Alcohol Delivery

Oregon allows alcohol delivery, and the options have grown since 2024. Retailers with an off-premises sales license or a limited on-premises license can deliver factory-sealed beer, wine, and cider to consumers. Bars and restaurants with a full on-premises license can also deliver mixed drinks and single servings of wine when sent along with a meal.6Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. Third-party services like DoorDash and Instacart need a Third-Party Delivery Facilitator permit from the OLCC, and every driver working under that permit must complete OLCC-approved training on ID checks, visible intoxication, and when to refuse a delivery.6Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. Shipping and Delivering Alcohol in Oregon The OLCC’s delivery page does not list separate delivery hours, so deliveries follow the sale-hour window of the underlying license: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. for off-premises licensees, and 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. for on-premises licensees.

Sundays and Holidays

At bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores, nothing changes on Sundays or holidays. The standard windows apply every day of the year, and Oregon has no “blue laws” cutting back alcohol sales at these establishments on Sundays.1Cornell Law School. Liquor stores are different. Oregon recognizes nine state holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Liquor agents have full discretion to close on any of those holidays or on any Sunday.4Cornell Law School. Oregon Admin Code 845-015-0140 – Hours and Days of Operation Most close on Christmas and Thanksgiving, and many reduce hours or close entirely on other major holidays. If you need spirits for a holiday gathering, buy the day before or call to confirm your local store will be open.
