When You’ll Need It

How It Differs From Your Federal EIN

What the Document Number Isn’t

The document number isn’t a tax ID, a business license number, or a certificate of good standing on its own. It’s a registry identifier. It confirms that your business exists in the Department of State’s records, but by itself it says nothing about whether you’re current on annual reports or authorized to collect sales tax. For those things, you’ll need to pull up the entity’s status on Sunbiz or request a certificate of status separately.
