Your TOE digit for NYC EBT is the last digit of your EBT case number, and it decides which two days each month your benefits get deposited to your card. The city staggers deposits across the first roughly two weeks of the month, and each digit from 0 through 9 is tied to its own pair of dates: one for SNAP, one for cash assistance.1Food and Nutrition Service. How to Find Your TOE Digit
Look at your EBT case number on any correspondence from the New York City Human Resources Administration: approval letters, recertification notices, benefit summaries. The last digit of that number is your TOE digit. If your case number is 1234567, your TOE digit is 7.
It is not printed on your EBT card, and it is not your PIN or any part of your Social Security Number. The confusion with SSN digits comes up because the EBT phone system asks for SSN digits during things like PIN changes, but those digits have nothing to do with your deposit schedule.
If you cannot find your case number anywhere, call the HRA DSS OneNumber at 718-557-1399 to retrieve it.2Human Resources Administration. Contact HRA
How Your Digit Maps to Deposit Dates
NYC spreads EBT deposits across about 13 business days at the start of each month, skipping Sundays and holidays. Each TOE digit gets two deposit dates per month. Your SNAP benefits arrive on the “A cycle” date for your digit, and your cash assistance arrives on the “B cycle” date. If you receive both, they land on different days in the same month.1Food and Nutrition Service. Monthly Issuance Schedule for All States and Territories
Because weekends and holidays shift the calendar, the exact dates move month to month. The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance publishes a six-month schedule as a PDF so you can look up your dates in advance. The current version covers January through June 2026.3Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. New York City Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Pickup Schedule
To read it, find your TOE digit in the first column. Under each month, the “A” column is your SNAP date and the “B” column is your cash assistance date. Lower digits generally receive benefits earlier in the month, with higher digits landing later in the first two weeks.
Upstate New York Works Differently
If you live outside the five boroughs, the TOE system does not apply to you. For every other New York county, the last digit of your case number maps to a fixed day of the month: 0 or 1 pays on the 1st, 2 on the 2nd, and so on through 9 on the 9th. There is no rotating A and B cycle.1Food and Nutrition Service. Monthly Issuance Schedule for All States and Territories
Confirming a Deposit Landed
Once you know your date, you can confirm the money actually posted a few different ways:
- Call the EBT Customer Service Helpline at 1-888-328-6399, available around the clock. The automated system reads your balance after you enter your card number.
- Use the free ebtEDGE mobile app from FIS to view your balance, recent deposits, and transaction history. First-time users register a User ID and password.4FIS. ebtEDGE Mobile App – Manage EBT Benefits
