An “Uber One” charge with a San Francisco location on your bank statement is almost always the monthly or annual fee for Uber’s membership program: $9.99 per month or $96 per year, plus tax. The San Francisco tag has nothing to do with where you live or where you last used the app. Uber’s billing entity is registered at its corporate headquarters at 1725 Third Street in San Francisco, so every subscription charge posts with that city attached.1Uber Technologies, Inc. How To Confirm It’s the Subscription
Check the amount first. If it matches $9.99, or $96 for an annual plan, plus your local sales tax, it’s the Uber One membership.2Uber. What Is Uber One Charges at odd dollar amounts are usually individual rides or delivery orders routed through the same billing entity, not the subscription itself.
The descriptor on your statement typically reads something like “UBER* ONE” or “UBER *EATS” followed by “SAN FRANCISCO CA.” Different Uber products generate slightly different merchant strings, but the San Francisco label stays consistent across all of them.
You can verify by opening the Uber app, tapping your Account icon, and looking at the Uber One section. If a membership is active, the renewal date and plan type will be listed there.
If You Didn’t Sign Up Intentionally
Two common explanations if you don’t remember subscribing. The first is a free trial that converted. Uber frequently offers a trial period at checkout or inside the app, and if the trial isn’t canceled before it ends, it rolls into a paid month automatically. The second is account sharing. If a family member, roommate, or anyone else has access to your Uber login or your saved payment method, they can enroll the account in Uber One without your involvement.
Before assuming fraud, check your Uber Activity tab for recent orders or trips you didn’t take, and look at your email for an Uber One welcome message or receipt. The signup confirmation usually arrives the day the membership starts.
How To Cancel Before the Next Charge
In the Uber app, tap your Account icon, then Uber One, scroll to Manage Membership, and select End Membership.3Uber Help. How Do I Cancel My Uber One Membership Your benefits stay active through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.

California’s Automatic Renewal Law backs you up here. Disputing a Charge You Don’t Recognize
Gather a few things before you contact Uber: the charge amount and date, the last four digits of the card that was billed, and a screenshot of the transaction. If you can locate a matching entry in the Uber app’s Activity tab, copy the Order ID from the bottom of the receipt.
For a billing issue on a charge you do recognize, open the trip or order in the app, tap Help, and go to the billing category. Support typically responds within 24 hours, and approved refunds reach your card in three to ten business days depending on your bank.6Uber Help. How To Contact Support
For a charge you don’t recognize at all, Uber uses a separate form. It asks for the charge amount and date, a screenshot showing your name and bank name alongside the transaction, and the first six and last four digits of the card.7Uber Help. My Account Has an Unrecognized Charge After submission, Uber emails a confirmation link that you have to open before a support agent picks up the case. If the charge went through a digital wallet like PayPal or Venmo, enter zeros for the card fields and provide the wallet’s email address.
Before assuming the worst, consider the ordinary explanations: someone with account access took a trip or placed an order, a fare was adjusted after the trip ended for a route change or added stop, a cancellation fee posted, or a tip appeared as a separate line.7Uber Help. My Account Has an Unrecognized Charge If the charge is genuinely not yours, file the Uber report and contact your bank to dispute the transaction while Uber’s investigation is open.
When It’s Just a Pending Hold
Sometimes what looks like a surprise charge is a temporary authorization. When you request a ride, Uber places a pending hold on your payment method for the estimated fare. The hold releases after the trip, and the actual fare posts separately. If your bank clears the hold slowly while the real charge posts at the same time, your account briefly shows what appears to be a double charge.8Uber Help. Temporary Authorization Holds
These holds normally drop off within three to five business days. If one stays pending past that window, call your bank. They can tell you whether Uber has already released it on their end and the delay is on the bank’s processing side.
