When Does EBT Reload in Washington State: Food and Cash Dates

In Washington state, EBT reloads on a set day each month: Basic Food benefits are deposited on an assigned date somewhere between the 1st and the 20th, and cash benefits are deposited on the 1st. Your food deposit date is printed on the approval letter the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) sent when your case was approved, and that same date repeats every month.

Finding Your Food Benefit Deposit Date

DSHS spreads food deposits across the first 20 days of each month, assigning each household one of those dates. Your Basic Food benefits post to your Quest card on that same day every month.1Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. EBT and EFT Make Getting Benefits Easier The date does not shift for weekends or holidays. If your day falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or Christmas, the money is still there that morning.

Benefits are available by 6:00 AM Pacific Time on your assigned day.1Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. EBT and EFT Make Getting Benefits Easier If you no longer have your approval letter and can’t recall your date, check your balance on a morning you think it might be, or call DSHS at 1-877-501-2233 and ask.

New cases work a little differently at the start. Your first deposit arrives the day after DSHS determines you’re eligible. Every deposit after that follows the recurring monthly date on your approval letter.2Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Basic Food

When Cash Benefits Arrive

Cash assistance works on one date for everyone. Benefits from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Aged, Blind, or Disabled (ABD) cash, and similar programs are deposited on the 1st of every month.3Legal Information Institute. Washington Administrative Code 388-412-0020 – When Do I Get My Benefits There is no staggering, so every cash recipient in the state gets paid the same day.

Whatever you don’t spend in food or cash benefits carries over to the next month automatically. You don’t have to clear the balance before your next deposit arrives.

How to Check That Your Deposit Posted

Four ways to confirm your reload hit the card:

  • Log in at ebtEDGE.com for your balance and full transaction history.
  • Use the ebtEDGE mobile app on iPhone or Android for the same information.
  • Call EBT Customer Service at 1-888-328-9271 to hear your balance, reset your PIN, or report a lost or stolen card.4Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Who Do I Call for Help With My EBT Card
  • Look at the bottom of your receipt from any purchase at a participating retailer, where the remaining balance is usually printed.

The ebtEDGE website also shows exactly when your most recent deposit posted, which is useful if you’re trying to pin down your monthly reload date.

If Your Benefits Don’t Show Up

If the deposit isn’t visible first thing in the morning, give it a few hours. Occasionally a balance check right at 6:00 AM doesn’t yet reflect the new amount. If the balance still hasn’t updated by midday, contact DSHS at 1-877-501-2233 or visit your local Community Services Office.5Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. DSHS can tell you which it is and what to do next.

How Long Unused Benefits Last

Carryover isn’t unlimited. Under federal rules, the state must remove food benefits that have gone untouched for nine months, or 274 days.6eCFR. 7 CFR 274.2 – Providing Benefits to Participants Every purchase pulls from the oldest benefits first, so using the card at all resets the inactivity clock on your account.

The practical point: if you go nine straight months without touching the card, you’ll start losing older balances. Even a small transaction every few months keeps that from happening.

A Note on Stolen Benefits

If a reload posts and then disappears from skimming or cloning, the current rules in Washington are strict. The federal authority that let states replace stolen EBT benefits ran from October 1, 2022 through December 20, 2024 and was not renewed. DSHS can no longer replace food or cash benefits stolen after December 20, 2024.7Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
