Lyft pays Prop 22 earnings adjustments on a biweekly cycle: at the end of each 14-day earnings period, Lyft compares your net trip earnings to the Prop 22 guaranteed minimum, and if you fell short, the make-up payment must appear in your account no later than the end of the following earnings period.1California Legislative Information. California Business and Professions Code 7453 The healthcare subsidy that Prop 22 also requires runs on a separate quarterly schedule, so it does not arrive with your regular pay.
The Biweekly Adjustment Cycle
Proposition 22 lets each platform set a recurring pay period of up to 14 consecutive calendar days, and Lyft uses the full two-week window.2California Secretary of State. Text of Proposed Laws – Proposition 22 The guarantee is not evaluated ride by ride. Lyft adds up everything you earned across the whole period and compares that total to the floor set by your engaged hours and engaged miles. Strong days and slow days wash together inside the same cycle.
If your net fares for the period came in below the floor, Lyft owes you the difference as an adjustment payment, and the statute requires it no later than the next earnings period.1California Legislative Information. California Business and Professions Code 7453 In practice, drivers typically see the adjustment post to the Lyft Driver app within a few days of the cycle closing. The outer legal deadline, though, is the end of the following two-week period. If your fares already exceeded the floor, no adjustment is owed and nothing extra will appear.
Tips do not count toward the floor and are paid to you in full separately. Lyft cannot apply gratuities, or deduct the credit card fees on them, against what it owes you under the guarantee.1California Legislative Information. California Business and Professions Code 7453 So a tip you received on Friday is not part of the comparison that decides whether an adjustment lands two weeks later.
When the Money Reaches Your Bank
An adjustment posting to your Lyft balance is not the same as cash in your checking account. How quickly you actually receive the funds depends on which payout method you use.
- Weekly direct deposit runs every Tuesday. Lyft transfers your account balance to your linked bank, and the deposit typically arrives within one to three business days.3Lyft. Weekly Deposits
- Express Pay transfers to a linked debit card almost instantly for a $1.75 fee per cash-out.4Lyft. Express Pay
- Lyft Direct cardholders generally see the balance shortly after funds settle in the app, without waiting for the Tuesday cycle.
Timing matters here. If your adjustment posts after Tuesday’s automatic transfer has already been initiated, it will usually wait for the next Tuesday deposit unless you cash out through Express Pay. That is the most common reason a driver who expected a Prop 22 top-up on payday sees it a few days later than anticipated.
The Quarterly Healthcare Subsidy
The Prop 22 healthcare subsidy is paid on a different clock. It is calculated per calendar quarter based on your weekly average of engaged hours during that quarter, and it arrives as a lump sum after the quarter closes rather than inside any biweekly cycle.5California Legislative Information. California Business and Professions Code 7454
Eligibility runs in tiers. Averaging 25 or more engaged hours per week qualifies you for 100 percent of the average monthly Covered California bronze premium. Averaging 15 to 24 hours qualifies you for 50 percent. Below 15 hours, no subsidy is owed. For the 2026 plan year, that statewide average monthly bronze premium is $706.6Covered California. 2026 Average Statewide Monthly Premium for an Individual Covered California Bronze Health Insurance Plan Hours are counted per platform, so Lyft hours and Uber hours do not combine for tier purposes.
At the close of each earnings period, Lyft must tell you how many engaged hours you have accumulated so far in the current quarter.5California Legislative Information. California Business and Professions Code 7454 That running total is how you tell whether you are on pace for a tier before the quarter closes and the payment is calculated.
If a Payment Looks Late or Short
Start inside the app. Each biweekly earnings statement should show your engaged time, engaged miles, the resulting floor, your net fares, and any adjustment paid. Compare those numbers against your own record of accepted rides and drop-off times for the period.
If the numbers still do not reconcile, the Prop 22 payment deadline is a legal one and can be enforced.
