When Will ANCHOR Checks Be Sent Out: Window, Status, Deadline

ANCHOR checks for the 2025 benefit year start going out on September 15, 2026, and continue on a rolling basis for roughly 90 days after that. Most eligible residents receive their payment between mid-September and mid-December, though applications flagged for review or filed close to the deadline can slip into early the following year.1New Jersey Division of Taxation. How the Payment Timeline Works

September 15 is a start date, not a shipping date for every check. The Division of Taxation sends payments in waves, processing applications in roughly the order they are received and verified. The 90-day window the state cites is where the bulk of payments land. Expect mid-September through mid-December for most filers, with the tail of the queue running into January or later.1New Jersey Division of Taxation. What Determines Where You Land in the Window

Two neighbors with identical benefits can get paid weeks apart. The main factor is how your application reached the state.

Auto-filed applications go out first. If you are under 65 and not collecting Social Security or Railroad Retirement disability, the Division of Taxation typically files Form ANC-1 for you based on prior records, and you should receive an ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letter in August 2026. No letter by late August means you were not auto-filed and need to submit the application yourself.2New Jersey Division of Taxation. Residents 65 and older, or anyone receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement disability, must file the combined Application for Property Tax Relief (Form PAS-1). The state does not auto-file for this group. These applications enter the processing queue when submitted, so filing early matters.2New Jersey Division of Taxation. Anything that triggers manual review adds time. Inconsistencies between your application and state records pause processing until resolved. A late-season surge of applications near the November deadline can also push payments toward the back of the window.

Direct Deposit vs. Paper Check

Direct deposit is faster, and only online filers can request it. Electronic transfers usually appear within a few business days of the state clearing the payment. Paper filers automatically receive a paper check in the mail, which takes longer because the checks are printed at a central facility and sent through standard postal service. Fall mail volumes can stretch that further.3Courier-Post. When Will You Get Your ANCHOR Check? How to Apply and Check Your ANCHOR Status in NJ

Confirm the mailing address on file with the Division of Taxation before the September run begins. A wrong zip code can bounce a check back to the state treasury and add weeks to the process.

How to Check Your Payment Status

The Division of Taxation runs an online Check Benefit Status tool on its property tax relief page. It tells you whether your application is still processing, whether the state has no record of it, or whether a benefit has been issued and when it was sent.1New Jersey Division of Taxation. If you cannot use the portal, call the ANCHOR hotline at 609-826-4282 or toll-free at 1-888-238-1233.4NJ.gov. ANCHOR Application Deadline Extended to 12/6 If the portal shows your payment was issued but nothing has arrived, wait at least two weeks before calling. The state needs that buffer to account for mail transit before opening an investigation, and calling earlier will not speed things up.

When a Payment Was Issued but Nothing Arrived

Sometimes the status tool shows a payment went out but no check or deposit shows up. One common reason is the Set-Off of Individual Liability (SOIL) program, which lets the state intercept property tax relief payments to cover debts owed to municipal, state, and federal agencies. That includes child support, Motor Vehicle Commission obligations, probation fees, and Department of Labor claims.5New Jersey Division of Taxation. Set-Off/Offset Programs

If your benefit is held under SOIL, you will receive a set-off notice naming the agency that placed the hold. The Division of Taxation cannot release the hold. You have to contact the agency on the notice directly. If you know you carry outstanding state debts, expect that your ANCHOR payment may be partially or fully redirected before it reaches you.5New Jersey Division of Taxation. Set-Off/Offset Programs

Deadline to Apply

The deadline for all filers for the 2025 benefit year is November 2, 2026. If you are not auto-filed and miss it, you forfeit the benefit for the year. Filing closer to the deadline also means your application lands in the busiest part of the queue, which pushes your payment toward the far end of the 90-day window or beyond.2New Jersey Division of Taxation.
