If you’re filing on paper, where to mail a Quebec tax return depends on two things: where you lived on December 31, and whether you’re sending the provincial return, the federal return, or both. Quebec runs its own tax system, so most residents mail two envelopes each spring — one to Revenu Québec for the TP-1, and a separate one to the Canada Revenue Agency for the T1.
Revenu Québec Addresses for the TP-1
Revenu Québec uses two processing centres for paper returns. Which one receives yours is determined by the region you lived in on December 31 of the tax year.
The Montréal office:
Revenu Québec
C. P. 2500, succursale Place-Desjardins
Montréal (Québec) H5B 1A3
The Québec City office:
Revenu Québec
3800, rue de Marly
C. P. 25555, succursale Terminus

Revenu Québec groups municipalities by region and assigns each one to a centre. Check the current year’s filing-by-mail page or the TP-1 guide for the exact region-to-office mapping, since the boundaries can shift between years. If you lived outside Quebec on December 31 but still have to file a provincial return, confirm your routing on the same page before mailing.
CRA Addresses for the Federal T1
Filing with Revenu Québec does not cover your federal return. The CRA splits Quebec into two routing zones:
- Sudbury Tax Centre, 1050 Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury ON P3A 5C2 — for residents of the Montréal, Outaouais, or Sherbrooke areas.
- Jonquière Tax Centre, 2251 René-Lévesque Boulevard, Jonquière QC G7S 5J2 — for residents of all other areas in Quebec.2Canada Revenue Agency. Where to Mail Your Paper T1 Return
The CRA zones do not line up with the Revenu Québec zones. A Sherbrooke resident, for example, is not automatically on the same side of both splits, so check each address separately before sealing anything.
What Goes in the Envelope
Fill out the TP-1-V package from the Revenu Québec website, which includes the return, the guide, and the schedules you may need for credits and deductions.3Revenu Québec. Income Tax Return, Schedules and Guide Use your RL-1 (employment income) and RL-3 (investment income) slips to complete the lines accurately.4Revenu Québec. RL Slips
Here’s where people slip up: do not mail your RL slips with the return. Revenu Québec explicitly says not to include RL slips, federal information slips (unless they show income earned outside Quebec), receipts, or other supporting documents unless a form specifically tells you to.1Revenu Québec. Filing Your Income Tax Return by Mail Keep them at home. You’re required to hold on to slips and supporting documents for six years after the tax year they cover, in case of a later review.5Revenu Québec. How to Complete Your Income Tax Return
When It Has to Arrive
For most individuals, the deadline for both the TP-1 and the federal T1 is April 30. If you or your spouse ran a business or earned income as a person responsible for a family-type resource, the filing deadline moves to June 15. When either date falls on a weekend, it rolls to the next business day.6Revenu Québec. The June 15 extension is for the paperwork only. Any balance owing is still due on April 30. Filing late triggers a penalty of 1% of the unpaid balance plus 0.25% of the unpaid balance for each full month you’re late, up to 12 months, with interest compounding daily on top.
Proof of Mailing and How Long Processing Takes
A standard envelope is fine for most returns. If yours includes several schedules, a flat mailer keeps the pages from creasing. Sending by registered mail gives you a date-stamped delivery receipt, which is your proof of filing if a deadline dispute comes up later.
Revenu Québec generally issues a notice of assessment within 28 days for returns filed by mail, compared with about 14 days online.8Revenu Québec. Notice of Assessment A refund typically arrives around the same time as the notice, sometimes slightly earlier if you requested an accelerated refund.9Revenu Québec. Income Tax Refunds If the assessment shows adjustments you didn’t expect, the cause is almost always a figure that didn’t match the underlying slip. Double-checking every line against the right RL slip before you seal the envelope is the single best way to avoid a back-and-forth later.
