Where to Mail Your Minnesota Tax Return: M1, M1PR, and M1X

Most paper Minnesota individual income tax returns go to a single address: Minnesota Department of Revenue, Mail Station 0010, 600 N. Robert St., St. Paul, MN 55146-0010. That is where to mail a Minnesota tax return filed on Form M1, whether you owe tax, expect a refund, or have a zero balance.1Minnesota Department of Revenue. Filing a Paper Income Tax Return Other forms (property tax refunds, amended returns, estimated payments) each have their own mail station at the same St. Paul street address, so matching the form to the correct mail station is what keeps your return from getting delayed.

Unlike many states, Minnesota uses this same address for returns with a payment, returns claiming a refund, and returns with no balance due.

Exception: Advance Child Tax Credit Election

If you are filing on paper and electing advance payments of the 2025 child tax credit on Schedule M1CWFC, your return goes to a different mail station:

St. Paul, MN 55146-00202Minnesota Department of Revenue. Filing for a Property Tax Refund

Form M1X Amended Return

If you need to correct a Minnesota return you already filed, use Form M1X and mail it separately from any current-year return:

Minnesota Amended Individual Income Tax

600 N. Robert St.
St. Paul, MN 55146-10603Minnesota Department of Revenue. Amending an Income Tax Return

Include a complete copy of your federal Form 1040X if you also amended your federal return. You still have to file Form M1X even when the federal changes do not alter what you owe Minnesota or the refund you are due.3Minnesota Department of Revenue. Amending an Income Tax Return

Payments and Estimated Tax Vouchers

Payments do not share the return’s mail station. If you owe tax with your Form M1, or if you are sending a quarterly estimated payment, print a payment voucher through the Department of Revenue’s online Payment Voucher System and mail your check to the address printed on that voucher. The Department’s general payment address is 600 N. Robert St., St. Paul, MN 55146.4Minnesota Department of Revenue. Make a Payment

Make the check payable to the Minnesota Department of Revenue and write the last four digits of your Social Security number in the memo line so the payment is credited to your account.5Minnesota Department of Revenue. Estimated Tax

What to Put in the Envelope

Before you seal the envelope, confirm the Form M1 pulls the right figures from your federal return and that your Social Security number and residency status match it exactly.1Minnesota Department of Revenue. Filing a Paper Income Tax Return Along with the signed Form M1, include:

  • A copy of your federal Form 1040.
  • All W-2 and 1099 forms you received for the tax year.
  • Any Minnesota schedules your return references, such as Schedule M1W for income tax withholding.
  • If you owe tax: a check or money order payable to the Minnesota Department of Revenue, together with a printed payment voucher.

Do not staple the documents together. Staples can interfere with the Department’s scanning equipment.4Minnesota Department of Revenue. Make a Payment

Postmark Date and Proof of Mailing

A Minnesota return mailed through the U.S. Postal Service is treated as filed on the date of the postmark, not the date it reaches the Department of Revenue.6Minnesota Office of the Revisor of Statutes. Minnesota Statutes 270C.395 – Timely Mailing Treated as Timely Filing and Paying For a 2025 return, that postmark needs to be on or before April 15, 2026.7Minnesota Department of Revenue. Income Tax Due Dates

Certified mail with a return receipt gives you a verifiable record of both the mailing date and the Department’s receipt, which is useful if a question later comes up about timeliness. Keep a copy of the full return, all schedules, every attached income document, and any check you enclosed. Paper returns take considerably longer to process than electronic filings, and your own copy is the fastest reference while you wait.
