Paper Missouri individual income tax returns go to a P.O. box in Jefferson City, and the exact box depends on two things: whether you owe money or are getting a refund, and whether your Form MO-1040 has a 2-D barcode printed on it. Here is where to mail your Missouri tax return for the 2025 tax year, due April 15, 2026.

How to Tell If Your Return Has a Barcode
Look at the printed return for a square block of black-and-white pattern, usually near the top. That is the 2-D barcode, and it lets the DOR scan the return instead of keying it in. If your form has one, use the 3222 or 3370 address. If it does not, use 329 or 500. The DOR’s fillable forms FAQ walks through this if you are still unsure.4Missouri Department of Revenue. What Goes in the Envelope
Sign and date the return. Joint filers both sign. The DOR returns unsigned forms, which resets your processing time and can push you past the April 15 deadline.
Attach copies of your W-2s and any 1099s showing Missouri income tax withheld. Those are what the DOR uses to verify the withholding credits on your return.
If you owe, make the check or money order payable to the Missouri Department of Revenue, and write your Social Security number and the tax year on it. If the check gets separated from the return during processing, that writing is how the DOR connects it back to your account.
Postmark and Proof
Missouri treats your return as filed on the postmark date, not the date it arrives. If you are mailing close to the deadline, hand the envelope to a clerk at the post office counter and ask for a hand-stamped postmark. A machine postmark can reflect the date mail reaches a sorting facility rather than the date you dropped it off.5United States Postal Service (USPS). Mailing Your Tax Return
Certified Mail or Registered Mail is not required, but either gives you a dated receipt and a tracking number. Keep the receipt; USPS does not retain copies.5United States Postal Service (USPS). Mailing Your Tax Return
Amended Returns, Extensions, and Estimated Payments
To amend a prior Missouri return, use the MO-1040 for the year you are correcting and check the amended-return box. Include supporting schedules, a copy of your federal Form 1040-X if you also amended federally, and documentation for the changes.6Missouri Department of Revenue. For an extension, Missouri automatically honors a federal extension if you do not expect to owe. In that case, do not file a Missouri extension; just attach a copy of the federal extension to the return when you eventually file it.7Missouri Department of Revenue.
