Who Is the Longmont Mayor? Role, Term, and Recall

The mayor of Longmont is Susie Hidalgo-Fahring, who won the November 2025 municipal election and whose term runs through 2027.1City of Longmont. Mayors of Longmont She presides over the City Council and serves as the ceremonial head of city government under Longmont’s council-manager system, which gives her real legislative influence while leaving day-to-day operations to the city manager.

What the Mayor Actually Does

Longmont has operated under a home rule charter since 1961, with a council-manager form of government. The City Council sets policy, approves budgets, and passes ordinances. The city manager, hired by the council, runs the municipal departments.

The mayor fits into this structure as the presiding officer of the council, not as a chief executive. She facilitates council discussions, maintains order during meetings, and votes on every item that comes before the body, with the same voting power as any other member. Outside of meetings, she signs ordinances and contracts and represents the city at official functions as its recognized legal and ceremonial head. She does not hire or fire department heads, manage budgets, or direct city staff. Those powers belong to the city manager.

The November 2025 Election

Hidalgo-Fahring succeeded Joan Peck, who declined to seek a third consecutive term. In a four-candidate race she took 12,444 votes, ahead of Shakeel Dalal with 7,757, Diane Crist with 6,569, and Sarah Levison with 5,074.2Boulder County Election Results. Results – All Contests

Term Length and When the Seat Is Up Again

Longmont’s mayor serves a two-year term, shorter than the four-year terms held by regular council members. Mayoral elections fall in odd-numbered years, so the next one after 2025 will be in November 2027. The charter caps the mayor at three consecutive terms, which means no one can hold the seat for more than six straight years without a break. Peck served two consecutive terms before stepping aside.

How Voters Can Recall the Mayor

Longmont voters can recall the mayor once she has been in office for at least six months. The charter does not require specific grounds, so a recall can be initiated for any reason.5City of Longmont. Initiative, Referendum and Recall

The procedure follows Article XXI of the Colorado Constitution. A recall petition cannot be required to carry more than 25 percent of the total votes cast for all candidates in the last election for that office. If 30,000 total votes were cast across the mayoral candidates, for example, the petition would need no more than 7,500 valid signatures. If the mayor survives a recall election, no second recall petition can be filed during the same term unless it carries signatures equal to 50 percent of the votes cast in the last preceding general election for the office.5City of Longmont.
