Who Owns Virgin Hotel Las Vegas? JC Hospitality and Hilton Curio

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is owned by JC Hospitality LLC, a consortium of investors that bought the former Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Paradise Road in 2018 for roughly $500 million and reopened it under the Virgin brand in March 2021. The ownership picture has several layers: JC Hospitality holds the majority stake, a group of institutional partners put up most of the capital, Richard Branson’s Virgin Group licenses the name, and Hilton handles distribution through its Curio Collection.

Who Is JC Hospitality LLC

JC Hospitality is the entity that orchestrated both the acquisition and the $200 million-plus renovation. Richard “Boz” Bosworth assembled the original investor group and ran the company as CEO until stepping down in early 2025. He remains an investor in the property.

The capital behind the purchase came from several partners:

  • Juniper Capital Partners, the private equity firm that brokered the 2018 acquisition from Brookfield Asset Management.
  • Fengate Asset Management, a Canadian firm managing the investment on behalf of the LiUNA Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada.1Fengate. Successful Opening for Virgin Hotels Las Vegas
  • Dream, a Canadian real estate investment trust.
  • Virgin Group, holding a minority equity position.
  • Orlando Development and Bespoke Hospitality Management as additional minority partners.

The property itself is held through a subsidiary called HRHH PropCo, LLC, a standard commercial real estate structure that isolates the asset from the parent’s other holdings.2PR Newswire. Nuveen Green Capital Closes $190 Million in C-PACE Financing for the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas

What Virgin Group Actually Owns

The Virgin name on the building does not mean Richard Branson’s company runs it. Virgin Group holds a minority equity stake and contributes primarily through a brand licensing agreement. The resort pays fees to use the Virgin Hotels name, design standards, and marketing identity. Virgin supplies creative direction for the guest experience, while JC Hospitality handles the actual business of operating a resort.

Branson’s role is ambassadorial. He lends global name recognition and appears at marquee events, but the day-to-day financial decisions belong to the majority ownership. The company whose name is on a hotel often has less skin in the game than the investors behind the walls.

Who Runs the Casino

When Virgin Hotels Las Vegas opened in March 2021, its 60,000-square-foot casino floor was managed by Mohegan under a separate agreement. The arrangement drew attention because it was the first time a Native American tribal gaming operation received regulatory approval to run a casino in the Las Vegas market.3PR Newswire. That arrangement has ended. In mid-2024, Mohegan exited casino operations, and gaming management transitioned in-house to JC Hospitality’s team, subject to approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. From a guest perspective nothing on the casino floor changed. The shift was in who runs the back office.

The Hilton Curio Collection Role

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas also operates as part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, a label that appears on the property’s own branding.4Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Curio does not change ownership. It is a distribution and marketing partnership. The result is a three-layer branding structure: Virgin provides the lifestyle identity, Hilton provides the booking infrastructure, and JC Hospitality owns the building.

Not Connected to Hard Rock

This is where confusion tends to set in. The Hard Rock name sat on the Paradise Road property for more than two decades because Juniper Capital held the Hard Rock brand rights for the Las Vegas market when it bought the resort in 2018. In May 2020, Juniper sold those intellectual property rights back to Hard Rock International, including rights to memorabilia, signage, merchandise, trademarks, and domain names.5Hard Rock International. Hard Rock International is now developing its own Las Vegas resort, a guitar-shaped hotel at the former Mirage site on the Strip. That project has no ownership connection to Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Hard Rock International never owned or managed the Paradise Road property. It licensed its name there, and that license ended when the current owners chose the Virgin brand.
