Will County traffic school is an online course run by the Will County Bar Association that drivers granted court supervision must complete to keep a traffic violation off their public driving record. The course costs $65, and you have 160 days from the date on your citation to finish it unless a judge sets a different deadline.1The Will County Circuit Court Clerk. Traffic School

The Course, the Fee, and the 160-Day Deadline
The program is delivered online. After you register and pay, the WCBA sends a link and password so you can take the course at your own pace.1The Will County Circuit Court Clerk. The $65 fee goes to the Will County Bar Association. Do not send it to the court. Who Qualifies for Court Supervision
Court supervision is a disposition where the judge holds off on entering a conviction. Meet every condition during the supervision period and the case is dismissed with no conviction on your public driving record.4Circuit Court of Cook County. Court Supervision
Illinois caps how often you can get it. Under 730 ILCS 5/5-6-1(k), a judge cannot grant supervision for a moving violation if you have already received supervision twice in the twelve months before your arrest. A third moving violation inside that window becomes a conviction.
Some violations are excluded by statute no matter what. The traffic safety course is not available if your charge is any of these:4Circuit Court of Cook County. Court Supervision
- Speeding in a construction or school zone where workers or children could be endangered
- Passing a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading children
- Second offense of driving without insurance, or displaying false proof of insurance
- Second offense of driving on a registration suspended for an insurance violation
- Certain truck weight violations
Drivers under 21 who receive court supervision for a moving violation must complete traffic safety school statewide under Illinois Public Act 95-310. Drivers 16 and 17 should expect to appear in court with a parent or guardian before the judge will grant supervision.
What Completed Supervision Does to Your Record
The Circuit Clerk reports supervision dispositions to the Illinois Secretary of State, but that information is confidential. It appears only on your “court purpose” driving record abstract, which is available to law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges. It does not appear on the public abstract that insurance companies and employers can buy.5Illinois Secretary of State. Driving Record Abstract FAQ
A successfully completed supervision cannot be used by the Secretary of State to suspend or revoke your license, and insurance companies have no legal access to it.4Circuit Court of Cook County. Court Supervision That confidentiality goes away if you hand over your court-purpose abstract voluntarily. If anyone asks for “your full driving record,” you may be giving them information the Secretary of State would not have released to them.5Illinois Secretary of State. Driving Record Abstract FAQ
CDL Holders Cannot Use This Program
If you hold a commercial driver’s license, traffic school will not keep the ticket off your commercial record. Federal regulations prohibit states from letting CDL holders use diversion programs to mask convictions, and the rule applies to violations in any vehicle, not just a commercial truck. A speeding ticket in your personal car still goes on your CDL record if you are convicted.6eCFR. 49 CFR 384.226 – Prohibition on Masking Convictions
The only exceptions to the federal masking rule are parking violations, vehicle weight violations, and vehicle defect violations. Everything else, including routine moving violations that would qualify a non-CDL driver for supervision, must appear on the CDL holder’s CDLIS driver record.6eCFR. 49 CFR 384.226 – Prohibition on Masking Convictions If you hold a CDL and get a ticket in Will County, talk to a traffic attorney before requesting supervision; the court may grant it, but the federal rule means the conviction still shows up on your commercial record.
Out-of-State Drivers
If you live in another state and were ticketed in Will County, supervision may still be available, but how your home state treats the outcome varies. Most states participate in the Driver License Compact, under which an Illinois violation can be reported to your home state and treated as if it occurred there.
A successfully completed Illinois supervision is not a conviction, so in theory your home state should not receive a conviction report. In practice, states interpret out-of-state dispositions differently, and some may add points or take other action based on the underlying charge. Check with your home state’s DMV before assuming the ticket will disappear from your record.
